It is advisable to equip the tank with plants and roots, or other decorations that provide shelter for the shrimp. Suitable decorations can include halves of coconut shells, dried leaves, bamboo, etc.

Females ready to mate have what is known as a saddle, which is a yellowish spot behind the head. After fertilization by the male, the saddle in the form of eggs moves to the abdominal area. After 25-29 days, about 20-40 fully developed young are released. During this time, it is good to feed powdered food or so-called pudding. Young shrimp can then more easily access food, and their growth is more uniform.

Shrimp of the same genus (or species) should be kept separately to prevent crossbreeding. Offspring from such crossbred shrimp usually revert in color to the original form.
