The ceramic plate is handmade in the Czech Republic from very high-quality clay without chamotte and fired at approximately 1100 °C. The ceramic is stable against both fresh and saltwater and has no effect on water values. All edges are rounded, eliminating the risk of injury to animals from sharp edges.

It is also excellent as a base for growing mosses or ferns. Plants can be glued to the ceramic or tied on using thread or fishing line.

The slightly roughened surface of the ceramic provides a very good refuge for bacteria, which contribute to good water quality in the aquarium.
