Research grant for cichlids 2026: Deutsche Cichliden Gesellschaft e. V. will allocate up to €2,500 for research and conservation

Do you have an interesting project idea related to cichlids, are you engaged in their research, or are you striving to protect endangered species? Deutsche Cichliden Gesellschaft e. V. (DCG) is once again opening the opportunity to receive financial support.

Since 1999, DCG has been awarding the prestigious Cichliden-Förderpreis, aimed at expanding scientific and aquaristic knowledge about the family of cichlids (Cichlidae) and supporting projects focused on nature conservation and endangered species. For the year 2026, up to €2,500 is allocated for support.

Which areas does DCG support?

In the past, the organization has successfully financed the implementation of projects from various scientific and practical fields. Your work may relate to, for example:

  • Systematics and taxonomy

  • Physiology and evolution

  • Ethology (behavioral biology)

  • Biogeography

  • Species conservation and maintaining biodiversity

Who can apply? The award can be applied for by anyone who is engaged in the biology of cichlids and wants to contribute to their research or conservation. Membership in DCG is not a requirement! Both scientific workers and passionate aquarists with a clear and meaningful project have a chance.

How to get involved in the selection process?

If you are interested in this opportunity, you can request application materials and further information directly from the company's managing director.

  • Application deadline: November 30, 2026
